Brandonite Ty Thorpe is the new captain of the Western Hockey League’s Vancouver Giants.

The 20-year-old forward received the ‘C’ on Wednesday after previous captain Zack Ostapchuk was traded to the Winnipeg Ice over the weekend.

Thorpe, who was dealt to Vancouver by his hometown Wheat Kings in August 2021, has recorded 66 points in 99 regular season games with the Giants.

He also had eight points in 12 playoff contests last season.
