JJ Love had his offence right back to mid-season form on Friday.
The Brandon University Bobcats setter kicked off the second semester of Canada West men’s volleyball with a 34-assist, six-dig effort to beat the UBC Okanagan Heat 3-0 (25-16, 26-19, 25-16) in Kelowna, B.C.
Tom Friesen led BU scorers with 12 kills while Max Brook added 10. Brandon (7-6) made just eight attacking errors and posted a .410 hitting percentage to UBCO’s .032.
Brady Cole led the Heat (4-9) with five kills.
In the women’s match, the Heat (7-6) swept the Bobcats 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-18).
BU led 24-22 in the first before giving it away.
Keely Anderson, Avery Burgar and Syree Tucker had nine kills each for BU (0-13). Danielle Dardis added four kills on five attempts for a .800 hitting percentage.
Jade Brussard led the Heat with 12 kills while Amaya Perry had 10, error-free.
The teams meet again today.
