The Westgate Wings thoroughly dominated the varsity girls AAA provincial volleyball championship, not letting anyone score more than 18 points in a set to capture the gold medal in Neepawa on Saturday.
The Wings swept the College Beliveau Barracudas 2-0 (25-14, 25-15) in the final.
Neelin bowed out in straight sets to Beliveau in the quarterfinals.
In AAA boys’ provincials in Steinbach, the Spartans lost 2-0 in the quarterfinals to eventual silver medallist Transcona. The Titans fell to the Linden Christian Wings in an 18-16 third set.
• AA GIRLS — Russell’s Major Pratt Trojans captured the AA girls’ title in The Pas with a 2-0 (25-19, 25-18) triumph over the Hapnot Kopper Queens.
• AA BOYS — Landmark downed Gabrielle-Roy 2-1 (25-23, 19-25, 15-9) in the AA boys’ final.
• A BOYS — The Treherne Tigers edged the Wawanesa Warriors 2-1 (19-25, 25-19, 15-13) to claim the A boys’ title while Hamiota won bronze.
Treherne’s Julian Mann was named MVP, with teammates Kadyn Smart and Benjamin Early cracking the all-star team, along with Wawanesa’s Connor Martin and Richard Gradwell, Hamiota’s Chael Rozdeba and Alonso/McCreary’s Sam Gurke.
• A GIRLS — The Deloraine Colts downed the Hamiota Huskies 2-1 (14-25, 25-23, 15-11) in the A girls’ final. Grandview downed Rivers 2-0 (25-12, 25-15) for third.
