Hey there, time traveller!

Quentin Robinson’s letter (Dec. 20) opposing Brandon City Council’s plan to build a large box store complex on the western side of the city raises several important points city council will do well to consider. The plan is definitely regressive rather than progressive.
One point he didn’t include relates to the decline of the downtown core. Much time, effort and money have been spent with the object of revitalizing that area of the city. Many times in Sound Off complaints were made by people reluctant, or even afraid, to visit the library or businesses there.
What has contributed most to the current state of Rosser Avenue in particular has been the development of one major shopping area after another outside the core area. Excellent, free parking, together with a wide variety of stores, has attracted customers. Who now wants to go downtown where parking is really limited and not free and The Town Centre consists mostly of businesses?
If Brandon City Council was sincere in its expression of concern about the city’s declining core, the last thing it would do would be propose yet another large mall to draw customers away from the area.
