Man faces trafficking charges
A 20-year-old man from Edmonton is facing drug trafficking charges after the Brandon Police Service allegedly caught him with more than 700 grams of cocaine and crack cocaine in his possession Wednesday.
The bust took place following a traffic stop on the Trans-Canada Highway, during which BPS officers deployed the K9 unit to search the vehicle and discovered a cache of narcotics consisting of several vacuum-sealed packages (with a street value of more than $70,000).
As a result, the man was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of crack cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
He was scheduled to appear in a Brandon courtroom Thursday.
Assault with a weapon
Brandon police are looking for the person or people responsible for stabbing a 46-year-old man several times in the 800 block of Fifth Street on Thursday morning.
Police were alerted to the assault after the victim began banging on random doors in the neighbourhood, saying he had been stabbed.
When officers arrived on scene, they discovered the man had suffered multiple puncture wounds and sustained an arm injury.
He was transported by ambulance to the Brandon Regional Health Centre with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police followed the man’s blood trail to a nearby residence, but they didn’t find the assailant(s) or any other stabbing victims.
