BRANDON UNIVERSITY

• The Brandon Chamber Players will perform their concert, “Winds of Change,” on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. Featuring music by Paquito D’Rivera, Halim El-Dabh, Valerie Coleman and Lauren Benofsky, the concert costs $40 for general admission or $20 for students. Tickets are available at the door, through the School of Music Office or at BrandonChamberPlayers.ca.

• Brandon University will host a book launch on Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., for former BU Chancellor Michael Decter and his debut novel, “Shadow Life.” The launch will take place in the Gathering Space of the John E. Robbins Library. “Shadow Life” was named one of the best Canadian fiction books of 2022 by CBC Books.

• The Bobcats basketball teams host the University of Manitoba Bisons on Friday and Saturday at the Healthy Living Centre. On Friday, the women tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8 p.m. On Saturday, the women’s game is at 5 p.m., with the men playing at 7 p.m. Friday is also alumni night at the games, with pizza, refreshments and door prizes for BU alumni. Alumni can reserve free tickets for themselves and a guest by emailing Alumni@BrandonU.ca by Tuesday.

• The Bobcats futsal teams open their 2023 season on Saturday at the HLC. The Bobcats will take on Canadian Mennonite University at 12:45 p.m., and then go up against Université de Saint-Boniface at 6 p.m. The futsal teams then hit the road on Sunday. The Bobcat volleyball teams are also away this week, with matches in Regina against the Cougars.

• The Evans Theatre will show “Nowhere Special” on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 p.m. A man who has dedicated his life to raising his four-year-old son is given only a few months to live and attempts to find the perfect family for his child. Tickets are $6.

ASSINIBOINE COMMUNITY COLLEGE

• As part of Manitoba Ag Days, Assiniboine is hosting its annual Ag Partnership Breakfast on Jan. 18 at the Provincial Exhibition Dome Building on the Keystone Centre grounds from 7 to 9 a.m. Meet with industry leaders and share in an opportunity to support agriculture at Assiniboine. • Assiniboine will be hosting a wellness event series fostering connection, support and self-care this January. Fill Your Cup: January Wellness Supports and Self Care Seminar will run from Jan. 16-27. To find out more information or to register, visit assiniboine.net/events.

The alumni relations office and the Association’s board of directors work toward co-ordinating initiatives and activities that focus on increasing meaningful alumni engagement with the college. • Assiniboine is pleased to welcome elders on a regular basis to campus and online. These visits are open to both staff and students and provide guests the chance to connect with teachings, receive support and learn from elders in a safe virtual environment. • Our women’s futsal team takes on the Providence University College Pilots at the Healthy Living Centre at 11 a.m. on Saturday with a game to follow against the CMU Blazers at 4:15 p.m. Meanwhile, our men’s futsal squad will face the Pilots in a game at 11 a.m. and the CMU Blazers at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday at our Victoria Avenue East gymnasium. Come out and cheer on your Cougars!
