They may have run out of hot dogs, but there were plenty of happy dogs to be found at Brandon Humane Society’s Wag-A-Tail Walk-A-Thon this weekend at the Riverbank Discovery Centre.
The grounds of the centre abounded in canines of all breeds, shapes and sizes on a sunny and warm Sunday morning as owners took to the sidewalks to show their support for the humane society.
It’s the first time the event has been held since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and shelter manager Tracy Munn said Sunday’s turnout was fantastic.
“We haven’t tallied it all yet. But I think it’s the best year we’ve ever had,” Munn said Sunday afternoon. “I’m guessing [we raised] around $45,000.”
This event is the largest annual fundraiser for Brandon Human Society. In the past, the event averaged $40,000 in pledges raised, and it was hoped that this year’s Wag-A-Tail event would surpass that amount.
