Canadian man aims for Guinness world record for most marathons ran in a year

It’s a gamble, but one that’s worthwhile to Ben Pobjoy.

The Mississauga, Ont., native has set out on a journey to break the Guinness world record for most marathons ran by a male in a year (239), held by American Larry Macon.

Pobjoy, who started on New Year's Day, plans to accomplish the feat running marathon-length distances across 90 countries, including Canada, while capturing content of all his discoveries along the way.

Having left his job as the executive creative director at advertising company Behaviour last August, Pobjoy felt it was time for a change.

Wright was traded to the Spitfires from the Kingston Frontenacs on Jan. 9 after being reassigned by the NHL's Seattle Kraken three days prior.

Brett Harrison, with two goals, AJ Spellacy, Matthew Maggio, Michael Renwick and Jacob Maillet also scored for Windsor (24-9-3-1). Joey Costanzo stopped 22 shots.

Dean Loukus had a two-goal effort, while Joey Willis and Olivier Savard added the others for Saginaw (24-12-2), which has dropped two in a row. Tristan Lennox made 23 saves.

Spieth ended nearly four years without a victory when he won the Texas Open in 2021, and then added another win at Hilton Head last year. Missing on this day was the slow swing rehearsal to ingrain the changes he made to his swing.

His key word is freedom, and it sure looked that way at Waialae. He had three birdies in a a four-hole stretch around the turn, and outside of his lone bogey on 13th hole, his only disappointment was having to settle for par on his final hole at the par-5 ninth.

The "Bataille Royale," scheduled for Feb. 4-5, was delayed to to March 24-26 at the resort 50 kilometres northwest of Quebec City, Snowboard Canada said Thursday in a release.

"The decision to reschedule the event was made with the goal of providing the best possible snow conditions and course for the world's top snowboard cross athletes," Canada's snowboarding federation said.

"The extra time will provide time for seasonal temperatures and snowfall to return as well as utilize snowmaking if needed, to build a unique new snowboard cross course that will showcase the talents of the competitors and provide an exciting race for the fans."

OSHAWA, Ont. - Deanna Stellato-Dudek hopes to capture her first Canadian figure skating title — at the age of 39, and more than 20 years after she initially retired from the sport.

But a viral infection that's been bothering her for nine weeks could get in the way.

"It's not going away. I don't know what's wrong but I've never been sick for this long in my life before," Stellato-Dudek said. "(But) we kind of said if we want this bad enough, we'll find a way."

Stellato-Dudek became the oldest skater to capture an ISU Grand Prix title when she and pairs partner Maxime Deschamps won in Angers, France in early November. She's been sick ever since.
